Old sock

Last week I watched this piece of art in the National Gallery in Copenhagen. Left of the sock was written MASSAGE å JYSK. On the computer I found different meanings (eg Jysk is: 1. Originating from Jutland, 2. An object of jade hand massage, 3. A Danish furniture brand, 4. A Danish department store). Why was this upside down sock pasted on a whitewashed board and why was it delineated with a marker? When I left the museum that shows paintings from Rubens to Asger Jorn, Memling to Kirkeby, this curious collage still remained circling my head.

Your drawing is a perplexing combination: both utterly “artificial” (composed as it is of hatched patterns and flat black lines), while also being a totally life-like, realistic depiction of the subject. Strange.
