My Queen Maxima’s portrait consists of 40 iPad drawings. Two drawings are required for the mouth. It is not a typical Dutch mouth, but one that speaks Spanish.

The eye of Queen Máxima
King Willem-Alexander is a good team with his wife. Therefore I made a complementary portrait of Queen Maxima. Furthermore, it is a challenge to capture her expression in a drawing, starting with her left eye. I will show more of her face in the coming blogs. Watch the video how this drawing was created.
Costa da Morte
I made a series of paintings in the autumn of 2011 as I looked over the Costa de Morte. This is the Galician coast in Spain that runs from Malpica to Fisterra. For centuries this most western part of Europe was thought to be the end of the world. The unpredictable weather and the constant shift in light provided an electrifying atmosphere.

Jasper’s ultrasound
Our imaginative world is growing with the existence of new technology. Photographs, screens, movies, scanners, ultrasound, radar, etc. let us experience a different reality. We can hardly use our eyes without the help of modern inventions. Even before his birth, I saw Jasper move. The gynecologist could already identify him as a boy.

Big Bang & Little Bang
Acquired by ESA’s Planck space telescope, the most detailed map ever created of the cosmic microwave background – the relic radiation from the Big Bang – revealed the existence of features that challenge the foundations of our current understanding of the Universe. The image is based on the mission’s first all-sky picture of the oldest light in our Universe, imprinted on the sky more than 13 billion years ago. I don’t understand much of the soup-like structures. The picture reminds me mostly of an enormous swimming pool.
