In the month of May I show paintings and iPad sketches that I have made in Mozambique in recent years. The sunny surroundings and the lush growth of trees and plants inspired me to display their shadows, as if heaven creates paintings.
It is interesting to study and paint shadows. What color do they have? How do you transfer movement, contrast and layering to the canvas? What meaning do you see in the forms?

In addition, my good friend the Mozambican sculptor Simões Ferreira shows wooden sculptures that he left under management during a stay in Europe a few years ago. His works depict the inner struggle in Mozambique, marked by the colonial war and followed by the civil war until 1992. With his images, Simões emphasizes the power of women, the family life and the sense of community of people.

Rob van Doeselaar (1958, Goes) has lived, worked and exhibited in many countries as an independent artist. He was confronted with very different living conditions and cultures. The impressions and experiences of his travels are thematically strongly related to his art and have had an important influence on style, color and use of materials. Rob paints on canvas, paper and wood. He also experiments with iPad art. He regularly publishes the results on his blog. You can subscribe to it (for free). He also has a passion for painting portraits. In 2013, he won a prestigious prize in The Hague for the best portrait of King Willem-Alexander. For more information, visit robvandoeselaar.com

Simões Ferreira (1959, Maputo) became fascinated by sculpture through contacts with the Mozambican sculptor Alberto Chissano, and by visiting exhibitions in Galeria Paraiso in Maputo. As a self-taught artist he started his career in 1977. In 1987 he devotes himself exclusively to carving. He participated in various collective exhibitions in Mozambique, South Africa, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Sweden. The National Art Museum in Maputo has included his work in its collection. He is also represented in various public and private institutions. He has been a member of Núcleo de Arte since 1978 and also of the Kulungwana Managing Board since 2014. Rob van Doeselaar
