This mountain is pure fantasy, but the Dolomites were in my mind.

The view that will disappear

A good friend asked me to paint the view from his apartment, where Mont Blanc can be seen on clear days. In the foreseeable future, new apartment buildings will be built on that spot and there won’t be much left of that view.

Only a stone’s throw away, the philosopher Voltaire lived here the last twenty years of his life, more than 150 years ago. In his honour, the village has even added its name: Ferney-Voltaire.

I’m busy making a linocut, a time consuming activity. It is always a challenge to translate an image in pure black and white.
