Tomorrow May 31 the exhibition ‘Almas Cruzados’ by Carlos Simões Ferreira and me in Galeria Kulungwana, Maputo opens until 29 June. Together in his open-air studio a few kilometers outside of Maputo we worked on four paintings as two souls from a different world. These works are on show at the exhibitions. Furthermore, the exhibition consists of new work that we have made individually.
I spent a lot of time in the Simões studio. Many people came along. I experienced the African way of life and I became part of the family. After 20 years in Africa, I have discovered that art is mainly about dreams and fantasy, the discovery of the inner world, and not, as in my own tradition, which is based on perception. It is a privilege that Simões helped me to understand this African perspective better.
